World Class Trophy Lahontan Cutthroat Trout

Pyramid Lake is located 30 minutes north of Reno, NV, on the Pyramid Lake Paiute Indian Reservation. Pyramid Lake is a unique desert lake, with it’s ever changing water colors, azure blue to turquoise; and home to the renown Trophy Lahontan Cutthroat Trout and the Cui-ui, a fish found nowhere else in the World.

This “most beautiful desert lake” is 4-12 miles wide and 27 miles long, it is the natural end of the Truckee River that begins at Lake Tahoe and runs through Reno, with an elevation of 3,802 feet above sea level.

For thousands of years Pyramid Lake has been an excellent fishery. First, providing trout and Cui-ui for the Native Paiute people, the Numu, for their daily survival; with the original giant Cutthroats weighing 40-60 pounds. During Nevada’s silver rush, Pyramid Lake was commercially fished, providing wagon loads of trout for the miners.

Today, Pyramid Lake provides the most versatile trophy sport fishing for Cutthroat Trout. All anglers have an opportunity for a fantastic catch, whether fishing from a 12′ aluminum or 24′ custom boat, casting lures from dry shore, to wader fly fishing with nymphs or the standard woolly worm. Present day catches are not historic 40 pounders, but lucky anglers do boast catches of 15 to 31 pounds or more.

For those anglers seeking a guided fishing experience, Cutthroat Charters, operates a custom 24′ Boulton Sea Skiff with top of the line trolling equipment and an experienced Guide. Cutthroat Charters was established in 1985 and have had the pleasure of fishing with clients from all over the U.S. and the World. Cutthroat Charters is Native American owned and operated by George and Carla Molino.
